The West Springfield mayor is requesting not to increase the sewer rates this fiscal year.

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The West Springfield mayor is requesting not to increase the sewer rates this fiscal year.

Mayor Will Reichelt told 22News that the town’s charter allows the Town Council to reconsider sewer rates periodically. But because of inflation, and the increased cost of living for families, he asked the Council to keep rates the same.

“We don’t want to just continue to pile that on year after year. I asked them to put a hold on it. They are going to study it and see what the numbers are like and what the needs are. But this year, we are not going to do any more increases on anything,” said Mayor Reichelt.

Mayor Reichelt said the town can look for federal grants or implement cost-saving measures to continue its sewer operations.
