LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The search for 32-year-old Joseph Couch, the suspect in Saturday’s mass shooting on I-75, has entered its sixth day, with no new developments reported by authorities. Thursday morning, Governor Andy Beshear visited Laurel County to meet with law enforcement and provide an update to the community.

Governor Beshear shared positive news regarding the victims of the shooting, stating that four of the five victims have been released from the hospital, and the fifth is expected to recover.

“From someone that’s lost people close to him in a mass shooting, no one wants to go through it, but for everyone to make it, we’re really grateful for,” Governor Beshear said during his address.

Beshear thanked law enforcement for their tireless efforts in searching for suspect Joseph Couch, with teams using helicopters, drones, dogs, and search crews to cover miles of the Daniel Boone National Forest. Couch is considered armed and dangerous, and authorities are urging the public to stay away and call 911 if they see him.

Several counties have kept schools closed as a precaution during the ongoing search.

Governor Beshear emphasized that there should be no notoriety given to the suspect and expressed his hope for justice, saying, “I hope justice will be brought to the suspect for the evil he has committed.”
