WASHINGTON (WCBD)- Congressman Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) is in “good spirits” as he continues to be evaluated at a Washington hospital after reportedly collapsing during an event this week, according to his office.

The Hill reported that Wilson, 77, was attending Ukraine’s Independence Day celebration when he suddenly collapsed and was taken to a local hospital.

“While Congressman Wilson continues to be evaluated by medical staff, he is in good spirits, improving, and speaking with family,” an Aug. 12 update on Wilson’s official X (formerly Twitter) page stated.

Wilson’s office has not provided details on his condition, but doctors reportedly told family members that the 77-year-old congressman suffered “stroke-like symptoms.”

“I was able to speak with him moments ago and I am incredibly thankful that he is stable and being monitored by medical professionals,” his son, South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, wrote in an Aug. 10 post on X.

Wilson has represented South Carolina’s 2nd congressional district, which stretches from Columbia to the border with Georgia, since 2001.
