The winner said she’s hoping to work more auctions!

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – A New Mexico woman is getting international attention for her talents at the auction block. She’s been recognized as one of the best in the world when it comes to selling.

Marcela Davila Gutierrez is a New Mexico resident who just brought home the top prize in the women’s division for this year’s International Auctioneer Championship.

“It gathers the highest talents around the globe for auctioneering in a competition where you go and sell a couple items,” said Marcela Davila Gutierrez, women’s division winner.

Gutierrez has been going to the competition for five years after attending auctioneer school where she was encouraged to compete.

Along with helping sharpen her skills, she said the competition has opened doors across the United States to work more auctions.

To prepare, she spends weeks reciting tongue-twister phrases and honing her unique chant.

“The auctioneers’ chant, which is a trademark for the auctioneer, involves a series of words that goes in-between the number, so it sounds like there is something going on,” said Gutierrez.

As for what’s next, her new championship can only be earned once, so there’s no defending the crown, but she said she’ll continue to work New Mexico auctions, hoping to break into more auto auctions, too.

“I believe that the auction method of marketing is one of the best ways, I know it is fun because it is fun. It’s one of the business transactions,” she said.

Gutierrez also said she hopes to become an auctioneering mentor to others in the future.
