My first trip to Asia was in Bali. I was very tempted with the scooters. I did not have a license but had tons of experience with riding bicycles on street. I rented one and my oh my was It frightening and fun. I only rode it for an hour total when I realized I was a little over my head and should get a license next time I rent a scooter. I went and got my license right when I came back. I used my license to rent scooters in Greece and had no problems riding. When I was in Greece it inspired me to get an adventure style motorcycle. I have ridden this bike alot and gotten quite proficient with riding. All close calls I had I saw coming a mile away. Of course I understand accidents can happen but I have accepted this risk and can only do everything I can to mitigate it. In parallel with this on a winter evening when coming home. I wiped out on my ebike on road salt going fast on corner. I tore my MCL. I had a trip to japan where I planned to rent a mt-07 and take some gopro shots of tokyo. I healed my knee enough to walk and proceed with my trip but not enough to ride just yet. All I could think of when in japan with my bad knee was to ride. every bike I saw parked I took a minute to look at. Winter is coming soon where I live and I feel the need to plan a trip to help bypass said winter. So here I am with my question. To experienced riders who live to ride. What is your impression of thailand as a rider? Is it a contant battle to survive or is it where you can let your guard down and let your worries melt away? If i want a mix of mountains, beaches and city where should i go for my trip. I was thinking of 2-3 weeks in January or February and renting a bike for the whole duration.
