RIDGEVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) – Deputies with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a shooting death at an apartment complex in Ridgeville on Tuesday.
Sheriff Duane Lewis confirmed that deputies responded to the Preserve at Ridgeville apartments, where they encountered a man in the parking lot who appeared to have potential health issues.
Deputies attempted to get the man to surrender peacefully, but he became agitated, leading deputies to deploy a taser to subdue him.
Shortly after this, deputies were informed of a shooting victim inside one of the apartments. Upon entering the unit, they discovered one person deceased, who, according to Sheriff Lewis, had been shot.
The man who was tazed is now considered a suspect in the case. He has been detained and is being questioned by investigators.
No names have been released at this time as the investigation remains ongoing.
