SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Veterans Inc. and MassHire Springfield joined together to host a job training event for veterans in the community.

This was the off base transition training federal program that teaches veterans everything that they need to know to get a job. The pilot program is only available in 11 states where veterans get to learn about resume building, interviews and how to translate their veteran skills into the civiliian workforce.

Federal job training program offered for military community

According to Veterans Inc. this transition can sometimes be difficult for veterans so they say it’s important to put them in positions where they can get jobs. Veterans and those who are currently serving in the National Guard and Reserve, were all welcomed to participate in the career workshops.

There were two sessions, one that focused on exploring the Department of Labor resources, and two was all about giving veterans a better understanding of the federal hiring process.

“They have been in the military for a long time. They are used to a certain verbiage and cadence..and a lot of times that does not translate well to the private sector and so we help them with that transition and make finding a job a lot easier for them,” said MassHire Executive Director Kevin Lynn.

At this workshop, veterans also got a chance to speak with veteran-friendly organizations and get more information on the housing, financial, and health benefits that are available to them. Event organizers say they hope to continue with this program to help out more veterans in the community.
