Lieutenant Colonel Thanakrit Jit-Areerat, Assistant Minister to the Ministry of Public Health, along with Mr. Panthong Loykulnan, Advisor on Tax Collection Development and Administration and Spokesperson of the Customs Department, Pol. Maj. Gen. Charoonkiat Pankaew, Deputy Commander of the Central Investigation Bureau, and relevant parties jointly opened a cargo container believed to contain illegal e-cigarettes imported from China at a port in Samut Prakan Province.

Mr. Phanthong revealed before opening the container that the officers had seized the container because they suspected that there would be illegal imports, declaring it as plastic, which was in accordance with the time frame set by the law. When no one came to comply with customs procedures, they invited relevant agencies to jointly open the container to inspect the goods inside. Initially, it was not yet known what type of goods were there, but it was expected to be a large number of e-cigarettes, as informed by the source, which were imported from China. After the officers cut the lock and opened the container, they found that the container was full of goods, both sacks and boxes. Lieutenant Colonel Thanakrit said that from the inspection, it was found that there were illegal e-cigarettes hidden with other types of goods, more than several hundred thousand pieces, worth hundreds of millions of baht. Pol. Maj. Gen. Charoonkiat said that regarding e-cigarettes, the Central Investigation Bureau has been continuously coordinating with the Customs Department, which has searched several warehouses belonging to Chinese people. But this time, it is considered a large amount of evidence found and is the largest target ever searched. As for the case where Mr. Atchariya gave information that police officers were involved, if any are found, legal action will definitely be taken. Meanwhile, Mr. Atchariya Ruangrattanapong, President of the Crime Victim Assistance Association The complainant revealed that this batch of e-cigarettes is the largest batch since the arrest. The owner is Chinese and is considered a major godfather. He has been doing this for over 2 years. This batch of products is an extension of the arrest of e-cigarettes in a warehouse in Pathum Thani Province last August. Mr. Atchariya also stated that there were 3 major traders who smuggled e-cigarettes into the country: the Chinese who owns the e-cigarettes in this batch, the other 2 traders, Mr. J. in Bangkok, and the network in Mukdahan Province. Lieutenant Colonel Thanakrit confirmed that there will be continuous expansion of the investigation after this because e-cigarettes are a social threat, especially to youth. Because the e-cigarette liquid found today is 100 percent nicotine, it is very dangerous to health.
