HONOLULU (KHON2) — High-pressure remains far north of the Hawaiian Islands, keeping moderate to breezy trade winds through Friday. However, wind speeds will drop slightly this weekend as the ridge weakens due to a cold front moving through the Central Pacific.

This weekend, a weak low-level trough will move in on the trade winds and connect with an upper-level low coming from the north. This will create more unstable conditions, increasing the chance of showers statewide from Friday night through Sunday. Isolated thunderstorms MAY also occur over Kauai and Oahu, depending on the strength of the upper low.

Next week, from Monday onward, drier conditions are expected as these low-pressure systems move away from the islands. Moderate to breezy trade winds will continue, with brief overnight and early morning showers possible in windward and mountain areas.
