LATHAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Bears have recently been spotted roaming around the Capital Region. One NEWS10 viewer sent us a video of a bear in their front yard in Latham. You can watch the video in the player above.
Other videos circulating on social media show what is believed to be that same bear outside of a busy traffic area on New Loudon Road outside of Red Robin and Scallywags Dog Salon.
The Niskayuna Police Department has also issued an alert for some bear sightings in that area. Police said they received multiple calls of a bear walking through parts of Niskayuna including around Upper Union Street.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) advises that the public never feed or approach bears, secure their food and trash, remove bird feeders, never leave pet food outdoors, and alert neighbors to bear activity.
If you spot a bear in Niskayuna, you can report the sighting to the Niskayuna Police Department at (518) 630-0911. You can also report bear sightings to the DEC.
