GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A student at Waccamaw High School has been charged with making school threats.

The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office said the 15-year-old posted on social media late Thursday an intention to burn the school down.

“Deputies and investigators responded but were unable to make contact last night. The School Resource Officer was waiting on the suspect at school this morning and escorted the student to the principal’s office where investigators conducted the interview,” the sheriff’s office said.

The student told officials that the post was a joke.

No material that posed a threat were found during a search of the student’s home.

The student was charged with making school threats and will be subject to the Georgetown County School District disciplinary policy.

Waccamaw High School operated under normal conditions Friday morning.
