“Safety is our priority, and we apologize to our guests for an onboard event in which an iPad was damaged and released smoke in the first-class cabin.”
HONOLULU (KHON2) — Federal Aviation Administration officials are investigating an iPad fire on a Hawaiian Airlines flight from Honolulu to Portland.
According to the carrier, smoke filled the first-class cabin about 15 minutes prior to HA Flight 26 arriving at Portland International Airport.
After further investigation, the crew spotted and secured the tablet using a special containment bag and gloves.
“Safety is our priority, and we apologize to our guests for an onboard event in which an iPad was damaged and released smoke in the first-class cabin,” the airline said in a statement.
Hawaiian Airlines launched an investigation to determine whether the iPad was among the complementary tablets it provides to first-class passengers.
