Two Springfield men were arrested after a fight inside The Big E on Monday night.

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Two Springfield men were arrested after a fight inside The Big E on Monday night.

According to a news release from West Springfield Police Sgt. Joseph LaFrance, at around 10:13 p.m. officers working inside The Big E were called to a report of a fight in front of the Brooks Building near Gate 5. Upon arrival, a victim told police he was assaulted by a man who was walking away.

The officer asked the suspect to stop, later identified as 20-year-old Davian Lopez of Springfield, however, he kept walking stating he was not involved. In an attempt to stop Lopez again, he allegedly punched the officer in the chest and then pushed the officer back to create distance.

As two officers grabbed Lopez and took him to the ground, a group of people surrounded them acting hostile toward the officers. Sgt. LaFrance told 22News that a man in the crowd jumped on the back of an officer who was attempting to arrest Lopez. He was identified as 21-year-old London Jefferson of Springfield.

Lopez and Jefferson were eventually arrested and both charged with assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.

The crowd was escorted out of Gate 5 without any further incidents.
