Warm and dry weather continues through late this week. Near-record heat is likely for parts of the state Thursday and Friday.

Another relatively quiet day of weather across New Mexico, with the exception of a weak backdoor front moving through eastern New Mexico. This front isn’t bringing any cooler temperatures, but is slowing down the warming trend for northeast and east-central New Mexico, where highs are in the upper 70s to mid 80s. Meanwhile, Roswell climbed into the 90s this afternoon, with highs in the 80s up to southwest Colorado. The front will continue to move south and west through the state tonight, spilling into the Rio Grande Valley tonight and bringing a slight canyon wind, with gusts up to 20 mph at most. Winds die down by the morning.

The cold front will not have a huge impact on temperatures both Wednesday morning or the afternoon. It will leave high temperatures a few degrees cooler in southeast New Mexico, while the rest of the state will continue the warming trend. High pressure moves over New Mexico Thursday through Friday, bringing record and near-record high temperatures. The Albuquerque Metro will even make it into the 90s Thursday and Friday! Another backdoor front will move into eastern New Mexico Friday though, bringing isolated rain chances back to the northern mountains and as far south as the East Mountains. This backdoor front will spill into the Rio Grande Valley by Friday evening, bringing east wind gusts up to 35 mph.

Temperatures will be slightly cooler this weekend across New Mexico thanks to the cold front, but will remain above average for the end of September. Dry weather will return to the entire state this weekend as well.
