A teenager was taken into custody after Nashville officers pursued a stolen vehicle, which crashed into an apartment building early Wednesday morning.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A teenager was taken into custody after Nashville officers pursued a stolen vehicle, which crashed into an apartment building early Wednesday morning.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD), around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25, members of the Madison Precinct spotted a blue Kia Optima by the intersection of Anderson Lane and Snow Avenue that matched the description of a vehicle used in multiple auto burglaries. After officers confirmed the car was reported stolen in Nashville on Monday, Sept. 23, they tried to stop the Kia, but it allegedly drove off.

Investigations underway after 2 deadly crashes in Davidson County

Authorities said the car continued to travel onto Dickerson Pike, where an East Precinct officer successfully deployed spike strips. The Kia reportedly turned into the Fallbrook Apartments in the 300 block of Dellway Villa Road and crashed into building F.

The occupants of the Kia ran away, but one of the suspects — identified by police as 18-year-old Marquez Reed — was captured. The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office said Reed is being held in the Downtown Detention Center on a $46,000 bond for six misdemeanor charges and three felony charges, including vehicle theft and evading arrest.

According to officials, investigators are still working to identify the other people in the car and their suspected involvement in the auto burglaries.

No additional details have been released about this case, but in a statement released on Wednesday afternoon about Reed’s arrest, MNPD urged community members to lock their vehicle doors, secure guns and any other valuables, and remove the keys:

So far this year, 653 guns have been stolen from vehicles in Nashville, 16 were taken from autos just last week. The total number of guns stolen this year in Davidson County is 911, which means that 71% of guns stolen so far in 2024 have been taken from automobiles.

Going hand in hand with vehicle burglaries is vehicle theft. Too many automobiles remain easy targets because keys are left inside or made available to thieves. Just like guns taken from vehicles, these stolen autos are also routinely involved in criminal activities, including carjackings and robberies.
