Jomtien and Dongtan beaches in Pattaya are currently experiencing an influx of jellyfish, that officials said might not be dangerous but could cause skin irritation.
The Pattaya News reporters reported that a large number of jellyfish were observed floating in the sea, especially at Dongtan and Jomtien beaches. This phenomenon typically happens during the late rainy season and early winter or during storms. The jellyfish have been spotted consistently for about 3-4 days now.
Mr. Wallop Boonchu, a disaster prevention officer in Pattaya, stated that the jellyfish in question belong to the moon jellyfish species, which are not life-threatening but can cause itching and skin irritation upon contact. He said that lifeguards should warn tourists not to touch them when visiting the beach.
Mr. Kritsana Boonsawat, Deputy Mayor of Pattaya, added that if a tourist comes into contact with a jellyfish, they should immediately rinse the affected area with vinegar to reduce irritation. He advised tourists to be cautious while swimming in the sea during this time.
