KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. (WCBD) – It may come as no surprise that people love visiting The Sanctuary on Kiawah Island.
Condé Nast Traveler announced the results of its 2024 Readers’ Choice Awards on Tuesday, and the Kiawah Island resort ranked high on two lists including #1 Resort in the South and #23 among Best Resorts in the World.
The rankings come after more than 575,000 readers submitted responses rating their travel experiences, and offered a look at places they want to revisit.
The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort was #1 in the outlet’s top 20 list, with a ranking of 98.79. It was not the only Charleston-area destination: The Beach Club at Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina also made the list at #3, and Wild Dunes Resort on Isle of Palms ranked #9.

The Sanctuary also ranked high among the best resorts in the world. It came in #23 on a list of 50 destinations and was the only resort in South Carolina to make the list.
