A cold front has brought in cooler temperatures Tuesday across New Mexico. A warming trend will begin again Wednesday, bringing record and near-record temperatures back by Balloon Fiesta.

Temperatures across the central and eastern half of New Mexico Tuesday afternoon are sitting anywhere from 10° to 25°+ cooler today compared to Monday thanks to a backdoor cold front that moved in last night. That front brought a windy start to the day this morning in parts of the state, but those winds are dying down this afternoon. It’s also a much drier day with only a few clouds across the mountains, and a couple very spotty showers near the Arizona state line.

A warming trend begins again Wednesday afternoon as an area of high pressure begins rebuilding to the west of New Mexico. This will bring in more record and near-record high temperatures starting Thursday, including in the Albuquerque Metro, where we will once again get up to around 90°.

Quiet weather will continue into the first weekend of Balloon Fiesta, however they may be some briefly gustier winds before the morning’s Mass Ascensions. These winds should die down both Saturday and Sunday morning before 7 AM. It will be a very warm afternoon this weekend, with highs in the mid and upper 80s in Albuquerque – again near-record highs.

Another backdoor front moves in Sunday afternoon. This will bring in slightly cooler temperatures early next week, but high temperatures, especially, will remain well-above normal for this time of year.
