LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Wednesday! A cold front passed through the region last night and dropped our temperatures for the day today. Afternoon highs will struggle to reach the low 70s, staying in the 60s for some areas in southern and southeastern Kentucky. Skies will remain generally clear after some cloud cover to start the day. Tonight will be the even cooler than this morning with most locations falling into the upper 40s and low 50s. Be alert for some river valley fog developing late tonight and into Thursday morning.

After a seasonably cool start to Thursday, we will be warming up during the afternoon. High temperatures should reach the upper 70s for most of us, possibly pushing near 80 in spots. This is ahead of a warmer stretch of temperatures that will last through the weekend. Friday looks warm to kick-off the Fall Meet at Keeneland, with afternoon highs climbing into the low 80s. There is a small chance the mountains of southeastern Kentucky sneak in a shower or two on Friday, but expect dry conditions for everyone else.

Though the weekend looks warm, we are expecting a strong cold front to moves through the region late Sunday into Monday. This will drop our temperatures for the first half of next week. We may stay in the 60s both Monday and Tuesday, with overnight lows on Monday night dropping into the low-to-mid 40s. Expect seasonably cool and mainly conditions through at-least the middle of next week.
