22News is hearing from Congressman Richard Neal after Iran launched nearly 200 missiles at Israel on Tuesday.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Congressman Richard Neal has condemned Iran’s attack on Israel, saying the assault is prolonging the war in the Middle East.

Iran fires at least 180 missiles into Israel as regionwide conflict grows

Iran said that it launched the attack at Israel in retaliation for the recent killings of top Hezbollah and Hamas leaders. Hezbollah has vowed to keep firing rockets into Israel until there is a ceasefire in Gaza with Hamas, which is supported by Iran.

But Israel is saying it will continue to strike Hezbollah until it is safe for citizens near the Lebanon border to return. 22News asked Congressman Richard Neal about the United States’ role in the Middle East.

The President handled that correctly. I think that with the assassination of Nasrallah… I think it was pretty clear…. he was responsible for the killing of hundreds of innocent Americans and I thought that the response from Israel in that instance was the appropriate one. I also think the President is correct in saying that we all desire a ceasefire.

Congressman Neal says there is a lot of tension in the area and that there are hopes for de-escalation. But he says we will have to wait to see if things escalate in the next 48 to 72 hours.
