CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A Cumberland County high student was charged with making a threat of mass violence following statements made on Wednesday, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

A Facebook post from the sheriff’s office said that several students reported “alarming statements” to the school resource officer and school administrators of Stone Memorial High School.

Middle Tennessee school superintendents release joint statement on school threats

“The School Threat Assessment Team, consisting of school administration and the School Resource Officer immediately brought the student to the school office and maintained supervision while an assessment was completed,” the post reads, in part. “…The School Threat Assessment Team did a great job containing the situation and obtaining valuable information for the investigation. No weapons were found and no students were ever in any danger.”

The district threat response team, the Crossville Police Department and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office reportedly assisted with the investigation. Stone Memorial High School was able to continue without any interruptions, nor was there ever a lockdown, according to the post.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office encouraged the community, students and staff to report suspicious or potentially threatening behavior related to schools or any other public buildings in the post. In September, the Tennessee Sheriffs’ Association released a joint statement in light of the “increased volume of school threats” across the state.
