Springfield school officials say a series of hoax threats have caused unnecessary panic and disrupted school operations.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A news conference is being held to address the public on the uptick in school hoax threats in Springfield.

Springfield Police Spokesperson Ryan Walsh told 22News officers were sent to a school Thursday morning for an alleged school threat. An update was provided during a news conference at 12:30 p.m. from City Hall.

The Springfield Public School’s Spokesperson Azell Cavaan said there has been a rise in hoax threats that are significantly disrupting school operations. Mayor Domenic Sarno, Police Superintendent Lawrence Akers, and Springfield Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Sonia Dinnall will address the seriousness of these threats, which have caused unnecessary panic
