ST. STEPHEN, S.C. (WCBD) – There are many opportunities around the Lowcountry to help those devastated by Hurricane Helene, including one church in the St. Stephen community.

Christian Outreach Ministries said they have been gathering supplies to help those in need since after Sunday school this past weekend.

“It made me think about all that we went through with Hurricane Hugo, and I know that people are needing help, and I just decided you know not us,” said Pam Myers who attends the church.

Myers said once they let the community know the church was a drop-off site for donations, people began helping.

“We might be a small church but God is a mighty God he can multiply. And he has. He has multiplied all this,” she said.

They are going to continue gathering enough essentials to fill a truck to take it to North Carolina early next week.

“I can’t even imagine. I can’t imagine what these people are going through. And I just feel called by God. I know that we are the hands and the feet of Jesus, and we are his disciples. He called us to do this because the other disciples, the original ones are gone, and we are that now,” she said.

They can use donations of various types. The church even has Cashapp and Venmo accounts.

“We need baby goods, we need food can openers, baby bottles. We need flashlights, and solar lights because people can put solar lights outside. Bring them in during the night and give them light because it’s pitch black and dark. They have nothing. Blankets, sheets, adult diapers, anything that your family may need, bring it.”
