An Albany man was arrested on Thursday during a weapon investigation, according to police.

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — An Albany man was arrested on Thursday during a weapon investigation, according to police. Jaidin Cruz, 21, is facing several felony charges.

On October 3 around 7:30 p.m., Albany Police tried to stop and interview a group walking near Madison Avenue and Grand Street in connection to an ongoing investigation. The group dispersed as detectives approached, leading to multiple pursuits on foot.

Following a brief chase, police caught Cruz from among the group and took him into custody. At the time of his arrest, he was allegedly found with a small amount of heroin and a loaded handgun, which detectives later determined was reportedly stolen out of North Carolina. Cruz now faces the following charges:

Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon

Third-degree criminal possession of a weapon

Fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property

Seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance

Loitering

Cruz is scheduled to be arraigned at Albany City Criminal Court on Friday. A second person was arrested in the incident and was charged with loitering and second-degree obstructing governmental administration before being released on an appearance ticket.
