Hawaii opens Mountain West Conference play against San Diego State on Saturday.

Mountain West Conference play has arrived for the University of Hawaii football team, who travel to take on future Pac-12 member San Diego State.

With a challenging stretch featuring No. 21 Boise State and Washington State in the coming weeks, Hawaii cannot afford a loss, nor can it afford to look ahead.

San Diego State 27, Hawaii 24, Final

5:31: 27-24 is your final as an incompletion and sack ends Hawaii’s hopes.

5:29: Fair catch for Hawaii with 10 seconds left at the Hawaii 23.

5:28: Hawaii forces a three-and-out but because they only had two timeouts, San Diego State will punt from its own 31 with 16 seconds left.

5:22: Hawaii turns it over on downs at the SDSU 32 after not converting on fourth-and-2. UH has two timeouts left with 1:12 left.

5:18: Hawaii rolls the dice on fourth-and-18 in its own territory and CONVERTS. Rainbow Warriors are facing third-and-17 at the San Diego State 46 at the two minute timeout after Brayden Schager gets sacked. Aztecs up 27-24.

5:05: TOUCHDOWN SDSU. Aztecs respond with a quick drive, ending with a 2-yard Marquez Cooper touchdown. Hawaii’s turn to respond down 27-24 with 7:05 left in the fourth.

4:56: San Diego State is driving rapidly to the Hawaii 22 with 8:17 left and a fresh set of downs. UH calls its first timeout of the half.

4:52: TOUCHDOWN HAWAII. Rainbow Warriors take their first lead of the game after a 14-play, 89-yard drive that ends with a 23-yard touchdown grab from Nick Cenacle. ‘Bows up 24-20 with 9:39 left in the third quarter.

FOURTH QUARTER

4:36: Hawaii forces a punt and after a close call, Hawaii starts from its own 11.

4:29: The ensuing kickoff goes out of bounds and San Diego State will start from midfield.

4:25: TOUCHDOWN HAWAII. A 12-play, 75-yard drive ends with a 6-yard pass from Brayden Schager to Pofele Ashlock with 2:06 left in the third. An unsportsmanlike conduct call will have UH kicking off from its own 20.

4:15: Plascencia adds to SDSU’s lead with a 43-yard field goal with 8:33 left in the third quarter.

4:04: Hawaii goes three and out and punts, which is returned to the UH 44 with 13:19 left in the third quarter.

4:00: Hawaii will begin the second half from its own 15 after a short Tylan Hines return.

THIRD QUARTER

3:38: The first half clock runs out on Tylan Hines’ short return. Hawaii trails 17-10 at halftime and will receive the second half kickoff.

3:37: TOUCHDOWN AZTECS. San Diego State drives right down the field and scores on a Louis Brown IV 16-yard reception with six seconds left, aided by a generous spot on fourth down and a defensive holding call.

3:28: TOUCHDOWN HAWAII. Brayden Schager finds Tylan Hines at the back of the end zone. Hawaii will then kick off from midfield after a roughing the passer call. Tied game at 10-10.

3:21: Hawaii advances all the way to the 38 on a Brayden Schager scramble, and a targeting call lets advances the ball to the SDSU 23 at the two-minute timeout.

3:13: TOUCHDOWN SAN DIEGO STATE. Marquez Cooper takes a handoff nine yards to the end zone. San Diego State takes a 10-3 lead with 4:49 left in the second quarter.

3:12: San Diego State calls a timeout facing third-and-5 at the Hawaii 9 with 4:53 left in the second quarter.

3:07: Brayden Schager is INTERCEPTED on a deep ball at the SDSU 45.

3:02: Hawaii’s defense forces another punt, led by a great tackle from Cam Stone. After another punt, Hawaii will begin from its own 13 with 8:44 left in the first half. Still a 3-3 ball game.

2:52: San Diego State will begin from its own 33 after UH doesn’t move the ball and punts again.

2:46: An offensive pass interference call stalls SDSU’s drive and the Aztecs punt. Hawaii will start from its own 20 after the punt with 14:14 left in the second quarter.

SECOND QUARTER

2:39: A nice return gives San Diego State the ball on its own 35.

2:36: Brayden Schager endures multiple drops to lead Hawaii down to the red zone, where the drive stalls and Kansei Matsuzawa ties things up with a 30-yard field goal with 43 seconds left in the first quarter.

2:26: Hawaii will begin its next drive from its own 10 after Tylan Hines slips on the kickoff return.

2:23: San Diego State gets on the board first with a 22-yard field goal from Gabriel Plascencia. Aztecs grinded their way to a 16-play, 53-yard drive that took 6:38 off the clock. 5:35 left in the first quarter.

2:09: Hawaii goes three and out and punts to the San Diego State 42. Not a great drive for the ‘Bows with two yards gained.

2:06: A great opening drive for the Hawaii defense, which ends with a Jackie Johnson III sack on third down. The Rainbow Warriors will begin from their own 6 with 12:59 left in the first quarter after a big punt.

2:02 p.m. HST: Hawaii wins the coin toss and defers to the second half. San Diego State will receive to begin the game.

FIRST QUARTER

Pregame: The Rainbow Warriors are dressed in black helmets, white jerseys and white pants at Snapdragon Stadium, a locale where they came extremely close to winning in 2022.
