NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Over the weekend, officers responded to reports of a man waving knives around and making threats to passersby in front of a busy Broadway bar.

Sunday just after 2:40 p.m., Metro police received two calls to the 300 block of Broadway about a man in a black vest who was reportedly swinging two knives near people on the sidewalk.

Court documents said officers located the man, 36-year-old Ronald Reeves, in front of an alleyway between Jason Aldean’s Kitchen and Rooftop Bar and Broadway Brewhouse Downtown with a state trooper who had already located him.

Reports said Reeves had placed two knives, described as large folding knives, on top of a trashcan in front of him. Because the weapons were still in reach of Reeves, officers ordered him to show his hands and lay on the ground.

According to officials, Reeves refused their orders and became argumentative. It was reported that he began shouting while crouching and standing up in quick secession.

Documents said after he refused to comply, an officer tased him once. After additional warnings, officers said he continued to refuse, at which point he was tased a second time. He was then arrested.

While interviewing witnesses, officers received their account of Reeves’ behavior. One person reported that they had seen him running through traffic and hitting the knives on the ground while yelling at people walking by.

A second witness claimed he approached Reeves and told him to stop swinging the knives while attempting to explain the danger of it to him. He alleged that Reeves approached him in a way that made him believe the suspect might stab him, causing him to back away and call the police.

Reeves was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He is being held in Metro Jail on a $14,000 bond.
