CINCINNATI, OH. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – A new era began for the Cincinnati Reds on Monday as the program introduced their 65th franchise manager, Terry Francona.

Francona is coming into the Queen City with 23 years of major league experience, most recently with the Guardians in 2023. He said that after his year off from baseball, he did not imagine himself back in a managerial role. “I had a really good year away from the game,” said Francona. “I needed to step away.”

However when the Reds came to him with the offer, something “just felt right,” and his excitement on Monday was apparent.

Francona noted that he saw a lot of potential in the roster. “One of my biggest goals is to have our players cared for more than ever before, but at the same time, asking more of them on the field than has ever been done before.”
