ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A man with a long history of burglary, driving stolen cars, and other crimes was put back behind bars last week and the latest burglary victim said this time, he hopes he stays there. A criminal complaint stated that Marty Havens stole thousands of dollars worth of items from a northeast Albuquerque apartment last month.

The man who lived there was out of town. He spoke to KRQE News 13 over the phone but wanted to remain anonymous. “The door was kicked in and some, you know, collectibles and also some family heirlooms and some items that were really sentimental to me were stolen.”
Police said Havens and accomplice Rosendo Romero sold off the victim’s belongings at pawn shops around town. Surveillance video showed Havens wiping away his fingerprints but that didn’t stop investigators from connecting him to the crime. In fact, detectives recognized havens from the surveillance video because of his criminal history. A year ago, Haven was charged with another burglary at a home in southwest Albuquerque also while the occupants were out of town.
He was arrested and released pending trial but then failed to show up to court and now the charges are racking up again. “To see that he was let out and able to just keep on doing the same things is frustrating,” said the homeowner KRQE News 13 spoke to.
KRQE News 13 first reported on Havens way back in 2011 when police said he led officers on a chase in a stolen car. He was caught again in 2013 for being a felon with a gun and went to federal prison. Prison records show he was let out in 2016. He started picking up new charges again the following year.
In addition to charges for the two burglaries, Havens also has open cases for another burglary in January 2023, a chase in a stolen car that same month as well as an auto theft case from last October.
