CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – It’s about to get more expensive for Mega Millions players, starting next April. The cost of per play will increase to $5, more than double the current price of $2.
Boosting the price is a major redesign for the game that’s had six record-breaking jackpot wins exceeding $1 billion dollars, since 2002. There will be improved odds to win the jackpot, bigger jackpots more frequently, and faster-growing jackpots with the redesign.
With the updated game, every non-jackpot win will be multiplied by up to 10 times. If you match all five white balls, you could win $10 million. “It sounds like a fair comprise between increasing the odds of winning and also paying more for it, you know sounds reasonable,” said Andy Lozyniaka of West Springfield.
The last time Mega Millions raised the price was in 2017 when tickets went from $1 to $2.
