ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Three scientists are taking home one of the largest and most distinguished prizes in medicine in the United States. The 2024 Albany Medical Center Prize in Medicine and Biomedical Research went to Drs. Howard Chang, Adrian Krainer, and Lynne Maquat.
Their work researching RNA has led to significant advancements in treatments for cystic fibrosis, autoimmune disorders, and other diseases. The scientists said there is still a lot of work to be done understanding RNA.
“We’ve learned a lot in the process,” St. Giles Foundation professor Dr. Adrian Krainer said. “We are applying it to other diseases. We are focusing on brain cancer and pancreas cancer and live cancer, etc.”
The group received a collective $500,000 to help further their medical research.
