Authorities reported 72-year-old Dennis Neal, a 44-year-old and a 14-year-old—all from Lewisburg— were on a 1977 Hurricane fishing boat near Wheeler Dam when the vessel’s motor failed.

ALEA said the boat was drawn into the dam’s generators, which caused it to overturn. All three occupants were thrown from the boat and none were wearing lifejackets, officials reported.

A trooper with ALEA’s Marine Patrol Division and members with the Killen Fire Department reportedly rescued the 44-year-old and 14-year-old, who were found between two of the dam’s turbines.
