Springfield Fire Department had a special blessing performed by Bishop Timothy Bayman on Thursday.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield Fire Department had a special blessing performed by Bishop Timothy Bayman on Thursday.

The Springfield Fire Department welcomed a new rescue truck and ladder truck to their fleet of vehicles. Springfield Fire Commissioner B.J. Calvi said with the addition of another tower ladder truck, the department now can have one at every fire in the city they respond to.

Their second truck, the Rescue Squad carries a lot of the specialized equipment to different first responder scenes.

Commissioner B.J. Calvi told 22News, “This increases the safety for not only the citizens but also the firefighters. The Rescue Squad that we are putting in service is replacing a 2011 Rescue Squad that serves the entire city so this piece of apparatus responds to every fire, every car accident in the city.”

The trucks are both in service helping around the city of Springfield.
