It was a cold start to Thursday across Central and Eastern Kentucky with most locations in the outlying areas dropping into the low 30s. A few of the sheltered valley spots saw upper 20s but some stubborn highs clouds on Wednesday evening slowed the cooling process down keeping a widespread freeze in check. With plenty of sunshine through the day, afternoon highs recovered into the upper 50s and low 60s. This upward trend in daily highs will continue as we close out the week and head into the weekend.
Cool high pressure sitting right over the heart of the Ohio Valley will set us up for another frosty night with temperatures dropping into the low to mid-30s Friday morning. This will mean another chance for frost especially in the rural areas so a Frost Advisory is out for all of Central and Eastern Kentucky. Again cover those outdoor plants or bring them in if possible. Expect a glorious Friday with more sunshine and highs climbing into the upper 60s which is much closer to average for mid to late October. It should be a great night for high school football across the commonwealth.
Heading into the weekend more picture perfect conditions are on tap for the area as high pressure continues to dominate. With the high sitting off to our northeast expect a bit of a return flow out of the south which will help push afternoon highs back into the low 70s with lots of sunshine. It should be a perfect October weekend to be outdoors so make some plans and enjoy! Our warming trend will roll along into early next week with more sunshine and highs back into the mid-70s. A weak frontal boundary may slide through mid-week with very low end shower chances along with a reinforcing shot of slightly cooler air.
