A Bexar County Judge determined the fate of the dogs that attacked and killed 1-year-old Jiryiah Johnson. The owner of the pit bulls, Heather Rodriguez, was supposed to be babysitting the toddler when the fatal attack occurred at her home on the Northeast Side on October 7.
Rodriguez, 36, left Jiryiah alone with her 13-year-old daughter at her home off Spruce Ridge Drive near Kitty Hawk Drive. While she was gone, the pit bulls at the home became aggressive and attacked Jiryiah, who later died of his injuries. Rodriguez was charged with two counts of injury to a child – reckless bodily injury, a state jail felony, and endangering a child, imminent danger – causing bodily injury, a second-degree felony. 
Bexar County Precinct 4 Judge Michele Garcia decided to euthanize all three dogs at a civil administrative hearing of the State of Texas vs. Rodriguez on Thursday, October 17. 
During the hearing, the state said the three dogs, Scooby, Pinky Pie, and Monae, “viciously attacked, bit and mauled” Jiryiah. All three dogs were XL bullies and taken by Animal Control Services on the same day of the attack. A 911 call was played, revealing how the teen sounded concerned and stressed.
