Wind and rain is picking up across New Mexico. The heaviest rainfall is expected later this evening and on Saturday.

A strong low pressure continues to move towards New Mexico. Today is it centered over northern Arizona. This low pressure is bring in heavy rain to New Mexico. The heaviest rainfall is expected in eastern New Mexico. Flooding is possible in burn scar areas. The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for the Hermits Peak Calf Canyon Burn Scar area. This watch will be in effect later today through the night of Saturday October 18th. This heavy rainfall will begin tonight and last through Saturday night. Rain will linger on Sunday, but won’t be as heavy.

The low pressure will also be sending windy conditions across the state. A Wind Advisory has been put in place for central New Mexico. Winds gusts of up to 55 mph are possible. Strong wind gust across the state are expected.

A cold front is moving through New Mexico today as well. By the early evening the front will be positioned in northwest New Mexico. It will passed through the state by Saturday evening. This front will cause a noticeable drop in temperatures on Saturday. High temperatures will continue to trend downwards through Monday of next week.

Snow continues to fall today for southwest Colorado and the northern Mountains of New Mexico. Southwest Colorado has seen the most accumulation over the past few days. Though Taos Ski Valley and Santa Fe Ski have see flurries the past few days. The snow in the very high elevations is expected to continue over the weekend.
