Pattaya-

A recent Facebook post has raised concerns about foreign beggars in Soi Pattaya Tai 17, who not only ask for money but also behave rudely and threatens for upset people to call the police, claiming they are not afraid of Thai authorities. The post questioned whether any agency would take serious action against these individuals.

On October 18th, 2024, at 9:36 p.m., a reporter met with Ms. Saipirun (surname withheld), a 30-year-old owner of an Arab restaurant in Soi 17 on Pattaya Tai. Ms. Saipirun revealed that a foreign man, likely a Burmese national, had been arrogantly entering her restaurant daily to ask customers for money. When warned and kicked out, the man retorted that he was asking customers for money, not her, despite her being the owner.

On the most recent day of the incident, a customer, annoyed by the man’s persistence, called Ms. Saipirun to remove him. Despite her threats to call the police, the foreigner remained undeterred, continuing to ask tourists for money and claiming he was not afraid of Thais or the police.

Ms. Saipirun also mentioned that a group of beggars, behaving like mafia, had been harassing locals and tourists in the area. These individuals, often drunk and shouting, created fear among residents and visitors. They would sometimes pull on doors, hoping to enter and ask for money from tourists dining or walking nearby. The authorities have been unable to address the issue effectively.

Arab restaurants in the area have also been affected by these groups, who frequently demand money from tourists. When refused, they act displeased and scold the tourists, daring them to call the police. This behavior has increased fear among the villagers.

Ms. Saipirun urged police officers and related agencies to urgently address the problem of these foreign groups to ensure Pattaya remains a pleasant and safe place for residents and tourists.
