GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A Georgetown County corrections employee was arrested and dismissed from his position after having sexual relations with an inmate, according to the sheriff’s office.

Pete Sawyer was charged with sexual misconduct and misconduct in office. He was booked at the Georgetown County Detention Center then transferred to a regional facility pending a bond hearing.

Arrest warrants state the incidents occurred on September 11 and 12 with a female inmate. Sawyer told investigators his body-worn camera was not active during the incidents.

The victim in this case corroborated what investigators learned. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division assisted the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Division with this case.
