Keydarius Thomas, 19, admitted that he was arguing with his girlfriend at their apartment complex off Old Hickory Boulevard.

Police search for suspects in deadly East Nashville shooting

He went to get his PlayStation out of the car when Metro police said that a woman threw a jar from the balcony and shards of glass hits another man’s car. Investigators said that upset the man.

“I came to him with peace as a man,” Thomas said. “I was trying to deescalate the situation.”

Thomas added that he didn’t know the man and things took a violent turn.

“I just hear a gunshot and a bullet came through…and shot me right in the back,” Thomas said. “I just took off full speed to the hospital?”

Thomas said that he knows he’s lucky to be alive and he’s hoping to get out of the hospital over the weekend.

“Why did he have to pull out a gun?” he asked. “Why did he go straight to gun violence?”

Thomas isn’t just worried about himself, though. He says he’s been following the news and has seen multiple reports of deadly shootings. That’s enough to make Thomas want to move out of the area.

“It’s just been straight killings,” Thomas said. “Multiple killings.”
