ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The community got to celebrate two unusual things, fungi and fermentation, for the second year in a row on Sunday.

The Albuquerque Fermentation and Fungi Fest included more than 50 vendors, demonstrations, educational booths, and lots of fresh treats that really put fermentation to the test. Also, bakers competed in the “Battle of the Breads” competition.

The festival brought together New Mexico food producers, chefs, farmers, and creatives to show the community all the benefits of fungi and fermentation.

“I like that there are lots of health benefits, and I like that there are just like this whole world of mushrooms that I really didn’t know and that I learning about. So, I think that if anybody is interested in learning more about mushrooms, the health benefits, the mental benefits, then they should come check this festival out,” said Downtown Arts and Cultural District Events Manager Kathryn Cannella.

Organizers said this event is a great way to shop local while highlighting local farmers and agricultural producers here in the land of enchantment.

They said to keep an eye out for details about next year’s event.
