HONOLULU (KHON2) — Frozen waffles sold under multiple brand names at Hawaii retailers and supermarkets have been recalled due to a potential listeria contamination.
TreeHouse Foods Inc. issued the voluntary recall for products including Kodiak Cakes Good & Gather and Great Value frozen waffles after they underwent routine testing at the manufacturing facility.
Those who consume listeria-contaminated food may contract listeriosis, a serious and sometimes fatal disease that primarily affects those who are pregnant, newborns, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.
It can cause symptoms similar to food poisoning such as fever, headaches, muscle aches, nausea and more.
Officials said symptoms usually begin several days after consuming the contaminated food.
FDA officials urge those who begin to feel symptoms to contact their healthcare provider immediately.
So far, illness or other adverse events related to the recalled products have not been reported.
