PERRY COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The Perry County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of Chief Deputy Scotty Sandlin, who passed away unexpectedly Monday after leaving the courthouse around 4 p.m.

Chief Deputy Sandlin began his law enforcement career in the 1990s as a sheriff’s deputy and served at various agencies, including the Hazard Police Department and the Kentucky State Police, where he achieved the rank of sergeant before retiring. He later came out of retirement to serve as the Chief Deputy of Perry County.

Sheriff Jon Engle expressed his sorrow, stating, “I loved Scotty and am praying for his family, friends, and coworkers during this incredibly difficult time.” Sandlin’s career and commitment to law enforcement have left a lasting impact on the community and his colleagues.
