NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A former Nashville resident and Metro Nashville Police Officer is going above and beyond to support flood victims in North Carolina following Hurricane Helene.

Steve Antle currently lives in Fairview, North Carolina and felt the impact of the storm firsthand.

“We lost several, about seven trees on our property,” said Antle. “We had to cut our way out just to get our vehicles out.”

Since then, he’s been working nonstop.

“I just started going out and networking with people that we know in the community, and I can’t really tell you how it started, how it came about, but within a few days, I had pretty much established that I was going to be working in supply and logistics,” said Antle.

Antle has a special place in his heart for Asheville and the surrounding areas as it’s where he started his career in law enforcement.

“I would say that my entire life has prepared me for this one thing,” said Antle.

He’s been delivering everything from generators and fuel, to pantry items and radios. Much of this is supported through the monetary donations he’s collected. Along the way, he’s taken to social media to share stories of his experiences.

Antle said although it felt isolating to be cut off from surrounding areas due to the flood’s devastation, he hasn’t felt alone in the recovery efforts. He said he’s seen the National Guard and state agencies from near and far come out in full force.

“We’re still finding people like today, finding new people we didn’t know were there,” said Antle. “They’ve been stuck where they’re at.”

That’s one reason he said his efforts will continue.

“I’m gonna keep doing it until I either can’t afford to do it anymore full time, or until the needs not there anymore, which I don’t think that’s going to be for years,” said Antle.
