LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Wednesday! We have a roller coaster temperature trend on the way the rest of the week. Today will be another warm and breezy day, but a cold front will be swinging through this evening. This front will drop our temperatures tonight into Thursday. Temperatures when you head out the door on Thursday will be in the upper 30s and low 40s. The afternoon will be feeling very “fall-like” with temperatures only reaching the low-to-mid 60s.

FRIDAY WARM-UP
Another warm-up is expected on Friday ahead of another, stronger, cold front. This could bring us a could rain showers during the day on Friday, but we do expect any shower chance to hold off until the overnight hours. Temperatures will soar into the upper 70s, possibly near 80 by the afternoon. The record high temperature in Lexington on Friday is 83. I don’t think we get that warm but it’s not out of the question. As the cold front moves through late Friday into Saturday, temperatures will be dropping.

COOL WEEKEND EXPECTED
Saturday temperatures will struggle to get out of the low-to-mid 60s. There may be a few lingering showers across the southern half of the state, but don’t expect anything heavy. There will also be some lingering clouds around the area as well, helping keep our temperatures on the cooler end. Temperatures will be dropping into the upper 30s by Sunday morning. Sunday afternoon won’t be much better either, as we are only expected to reach the low 60s.

WARMING UP NEXT WEEK
Monday morning will start off chilly, but after that you can expect a gradual warm-up through the mid-week. Afternoon highs will likely be well-above average, back into the mid-70s by Tuesday and Wednesday. We are expected to stay warm through at least Halloween (only 8 days away now). The big question late next week, right around or after Halloween, will be the timing of a potent cold front. This front will likely have more moisture than our previous cold fronts to have passed through. This could increase our rain and even storm threat around this time. It’s too early for exact timing, so stay with us for more updates.

DRY OCTOBER
Conditions have been VERY dry across the area during the month of October. All four of our official climate locations (Frankfort, Jackson, Lexington, & London) have all received less than a quarter inch of rain for the month. That is WELL below average. With very little rain expected Friday into Saturday, this means will likely end the month with one of the driest Octobers on record across the area. Again, still watching the strong cold front around or just after Halloween. That front could also give us some rain on the final day of the month.
