It was a breezy mid-week across Central and Eastern Kentucky as a dry cold front moved in from the northwest. With winds out of the southwest gusting 20 to 25 miles per hour to go along with more sunshine, afternoon highs jumped back into the upper 70s across the board just ahead of the approaching boundary. The last few days have felt more like mid-September instead of late October but cooler air is set to return, albeit briefly heading into Thursday.
High pressure will drift through Ohio Valley Thursday bringing some cool air with it so it should feel much more like fall across the area. Temperatures will be chilly out the door in the morning with readings dropping into the low 40s so plan accordingly. More sunshine is on the way but a light northeast wind will slow down our warm-up so afternoon highs should only recover into the mid-60s but it still should be a pleasant fall day.
We’ll be on a bit of a rollercoaster ride with our temperatures as we close out the week and head into the upcoming weekend. Another frontal boundary will slide into the region Friday allowing temperatures to rebound quickly so another day of unseasonably warm weather should be on the way. A strong southwest wind along with sunshine should help push afternoon highs back into the upper 70s yet again. This front should have a little more moisture to work with so we could see a few scattered showers Friday night and into Saturday which should be our best chance for measurable in quite awhile. The shower chances should linger into Saturday afternoon but cooler drier air will move in late. It should be a quiet night at Kroger Field for Kentucky and Auburn but plan on a cool evening as temperatures drop off through the 50s.
It’s back to tranquil late October weather to end the weekend and head into the final days of October. With more sunshine around it will be pleasantly cool Sunday with afternoon highs into the low 60s. A nice rebound will be on tap into early next week as afternoon highs climb back into the low to mid-70s as we approach Halloween with dry weather expected.
