In Greenfield, Governor Maura Healey announced $30 million in state funding to provide free public transportation across the state from November 1 through June 30, 2025.

GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Governor Maura Healey will be in Greenfield to announce new funding to provide free public transportation across the state.

Governor Healey will join local and state officials to announce $30 million in state funding to provide year-round, fare-free public transportation from select stations across the state and here in western Mass.

It’s part of the $58 billion fiscal year 2025 state budget signed by Healey in July and the governor, other state leaders, and Greenfield Mayor Ginny Desorgher will give more information at a news conference Thursday at 2 p.m. at the John W. Olver Transit Center in Greenfield.

This “try transit initiative” brings free public transportation to 13 regions across the state, including the PVTA and Franklin Regional Transit Authority, from November 1 through June 30, 2025.

The PVTA has also launched a new weekday round-trip service from Amherst to Greenfield, which adds additional connections to the Greenfield area. Meanwhile, the Franklin Regional Transit Authority has waived its fees since the start of the pandemic and will now continue to do so.

With this funding, the Healey-Driscoll Administration aims to increase public transportation networks across the state and make these services more accessible to the larger community.
