RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Multiple Rutherford County crews helped perform a “high-angle rope rescue operation” on Friday afternoon after a person fell roughly 80 feet into a sinkhole.

According to a Rutherford County spokesperson, authorities were called to the area near Snail Shell Cave in the Rockvale community at about 3 p.m. Rutherford County Fire and Rescue, Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services, the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office and the Rutherford County Emergency Management Agency assisted with the rescue.

Crews assessed and stabilized the person’s injuries before performing the rescue operation. The spokesperson did not identify the person who fell, though they added that the person was reportedly part of a group of students at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU).
